Help - strange behavior on my denon

I have a Denon 3312 which I love. Lately it seems to be cutting out the sound on the center channel. I can hear the AVR make a clicking noise and then the center cuts out. Sometimes,it comes back on relatively soon, other times not for a while. Many times I can hear the avr continue to make an occasional clicking noise. It's almost like it's trying to activate the protection circuit but is only doing so on that one speaker output. I've checked my wiring and I don't have any loose cables or stray wires (everything is connected via banana plugs). Could I have an internal short or something? Is it worth getting it fixed given it's age (assuming any repair is probably a minimum if $200). Any other ideas?

thanks

Hi. Are you watching TV when this happens, and if so, have you noticed if the source is toggling between stereo and surround sound modes? I don't know if the Denon 3312 would shut off the center channel (and surround) amps if a stereo signal is detected, but some receivers do that (mine only does it if I manually select the stereo mode).

it happens on multiple sources - tv, Xbox, DVD. And the center channel shuts off even when the AVR detects a ProLogic signal

Swap one of your left or right front loudspeakers with the center channel..
What happens?
1. Center channel still cuts out, problem is internal within the Denon
2. Center channel doesn't cut out, problem point to a bad loudspeaker

Be sure to double-check your wiring any little wire strand shorting @ the loudspeaker or AVR rear panel even with banana plugs can cause the sound to cut out.

Just my $0.05... ;)
