I have a simple cheap system but can't find directions to integrate it. What's the best way to hook up a tv,5 disc dvd changer surround system, and a combo vcr/vid disc recorder. Component cables are an option but optical is not. I'm sorry to waste your time on simple junk and promise to upgrade as funds are availabe. Remember I'm a newbie.

Optical cables are used for digital audio connections. But, the other chouice is an RCA type connection called digital audio that uses a video cable just fine.

Component cable is in the video signals. So is Svideo.
Multiple video signals may be switched through your receiver. Use the highest quality that the TV can support.

I realize the diff in hookups and was describing whats available. Should I hookup dvr/vcr into tv or dvd surround? My real ? should be do these 2 components set up on different different comps on tv or should they be hooked up together and then to tv. I appreciate your help and confused you with to much info. Thank you

I would hook up the DVR/VCR into the surround then go from the surround to the TV. Question do you have a cable box?? If you do, then you can take a video and audio signal to the tv as well as a video/ audio signal into the DVR/ VCR so you can record on to DVD, and then go from the DVR/VCR to the surround DVD. The surround DVD will also have to be hooked up to the TV so you can see video. I know it is kind of vague but not listing your componets kind of limits the advice we can give.
