Help: Setup Question -- Cable Box/HDMI

I'm new to the whole home theater experience and would like some assistance. Here is my new setup:

42" Panasonic Plasma TV
Onyko Home Theater (has component and s-video jacks)

Cable Box w/HDMI
DVD Player w/S-Video
Playstation w/S-Video

The plasma has an optical out jack, so I was going to connect *everything* to the TV, and then merely connect the TV to the Onyko via the optical jack. Is there a problem with this? It seems that all of the guides say that I need to connect everything to the receiver rather than the TV, but my cable box is using HDMI and the receiver does not have a HDMI input.

What are the pros and cons to just connecting the TV to the home theater via the optical jack only, and if that is not a good option, how would I solve the HDMI cable box issue?

Thank you much!

Mitch

How are you planning on connecting the audio with the PS2 and DVD Player to the Plasma TV? If you are going to use the optical jack to output sound to the receiver I am pretty sure you would have to have optical inputs for the PS2 and DVD player going into the TV, one reason to run everything though the receiver.

I have a setup similar to yours in that my receiver does not have a HDMI input so I just run HDMI from the cable box to the TV and then an optical toslink from the TV to the receiver. My DVD player and Xbox both run audio (toslink) and video (component) directly to the receiver and then component video out to the TV. The setup works great for me and I have not had any problems with it.
