help selecting stereo mode

i have a HK avr 354 and have been using it for some time now and have never really run into a problem until now. i wanted to change the audio mode from "AVR chooses Best" to 5 channel stereo or even 7 channel stereo, when i select stereo it says 2 channel, when i try to change from 2 channel to 5, it wont let me. the option for 5 channel or 7 channel exists, cuz right below 2 channel stereo the options are there but there kind of faded out so i cant select them, i cant even go onto the 5 channel stereo option let alone select them. i have my 7.1 spekers hooked up and working, its all good and perfect as pcm, but i wanted to just change it up a lil.

You don't want to use those settings anyway, they have no utility, and are not stereo.

If you want to reclaim ambiance and fake multichannel sound, what you need is Dolby PLIIx music or DTS Neo 6 music.
