I would appreciate help in wiring diagram or how-to's. I'm getting an Onky TX 108, 4 Acoustic Monitor 3311 speakers, and a Proficient S8 subwoofer from my dad soon. I've been trying to research on how to wire 2 of the Monitor speakers and the S8 subwoofer to the rear output and maintain 8 ohms.

One of these subs? https://proficientaudio.com/product-category/speakers/subwoofers/ Particularly, does it have high-level inputs (i.e. speaker-level)? The receiver doesn't have pre-outs or a dedicated sub pre-out to use.

This is a 2ch amp, while it has A/B speaker connections it's not particularly meant to use both A&B simultaneously, altho perhaps at reasonable volume levels it may work, depending on the impedance load your speakers present. Can't see a particular "Acoustic Monitor 3311"....got a link? Even if they're rated 8 ohm if you double them up on the amp they're now 4 ohm or lower (as speaker impedance ratings aren't particularly the lowest impedance they present).

If interested you can download the manual for the Onkyo at hifiengine.com (if you sign up).

https://reverb.com/item/13801874-acoustic-series-3311-studio-monitor-oak I'm getting 4 of these, trying to get serial # for the subwoofer. I can wire it right and get 16 ohms, but kinda stuck as to 3rd pairing as to doing the sub parallel or series to drop ohms and still have minimum 8 ohms when running both a and b

They look like white van speakers (look that up). If you haven't gotten them I wouldn't. Why wire four in at all? It's just 2ch stereo signal in the first place.... (oh, and specify how you plan to wire, just to see what you have planned).

The sub if it has its own amp and ability to accept high level/speaker level inputs will not affect the impedance load.

That sub has speaker level/high level inputs but its not much of a sub. Why are you buying that one particularly?

I've researched white van speakers. It's 4 channel amp with 2 front and 2 rear. The speakers my dad are giving me are loud enough to throw a concert so I know they aren't the "white vans" lol. On the back of the amp it says if only channel A, min 4 ohms. If A and B min is 8 ohms.

The way I am going to wire is 2 front 3 rear. I know there's a way to wire it in either parallel or series for rear to maintain 8 ohms minimum when using all channels but I'm having a hard time figuring that out. I think it's 2 parallel 1 serial in rear to maintain the 8... idk

No, it is a two channel amp (look at the manual). That's why when you add speakers you can't use as low of impedance for the speakers. White vans can be loud, just not particularly good. Would love to see a link to the manufacturer's info on them or a manual. If the speakers are decent, that sub isn't going to be a lot different than what they do. Parallel vs series wiring have tradeoffs....that you wouldn't need to worry about in a true 4ch amp.

Lol you replied before I could correct myself on the channels, it's 2 channel not front and rear my bad. I will be upgrading eventually to a better amp when I can actually find one on a beer budget. I'll look for a manual on them and it's 2 different sets of the same 3311, ones a dark oak set and ones a lighter oak color.

I think it's going to take a bit of researching, but so far what I've found is from the 90s, Jefferies Hi-Fi out of London shut down a few shops in the 90s. It might be tricky to find a manual on them but I'll keep looking.

I still think you'll likely simply get better sound with two good speakers in 2ch mode rather than doubling up on two sets of stereo speakers (somewhat fighting each other). Love to see some good specs (let alone measurements). No, it's not a quad amp, just a 2ch amp with A/B options (generally meant for listening in one room vs another). Beer budgets sometimes are enhanced by cutting off the beer (a big sacrifice I generally won't make). Good luck in any case!

I contacted the company about the speakers and waiting on reply. I will have the specs on the speakers by Friday evening. I remember my dad telling me the speakers serial numbers are 1 off, so they're paired. Measurements of box is 15x27x10 I think. 125 watts.

Inches? S/n being matched may mean little. What is the company you contacted? They have a website?

Audiot.co.uk is the closest I've gotten to the research I've done in last 20 min. And yes the speaker weighs 33lbs, and is 15"x27"x10"

Well I hope it works out that looks like a retailer rather than any kind of research site.....and good to know those are inches rather than cm.

I've been on probably 40 sites reading to find the origins of these speakers, and closest I've got to origin is that site so far. I'll do alot more research tomorrow from what I've learned so far.

I saw many with similar names thus my conclusion they're more likely white van speakers....it happens.

I'm getting them free. Once I get them in a month I hope they're better than my previous KLH I lost years ago.

Are these the speakers you have or are getting?

If so, they were made by the Speaker Factory of Gaithersburg MD USA.

They have apparently been in business since 1959.

Those speakers will be very old and I would guess from the 1960s or 1970s era. They are typical of many dreadful designs from that era. The formula was a 12" woofer, ported to give some sort of bass thump as a rule, a 5" "Squawker" mid range, which was typically a TV speaker and a cone tweeter which was usually of unmentionable quality. This speaker also follows the pattern of potentiometer controls to the mid and tweeter. This was done because the designer had not clue how to design a decent crossover, and left it to the user to balance the speakers as best he could by ear.

Those speakers may play loud, which may possibly be the only positive thing you could say about them, unless you are a neighbor.

Since impedance is usually anyone's guess and varies with frequency and is a curve, do not connect more than two of those speakers to your amp, or you will very likely destroy it.

Lastly, they will be nowhere near as good as your old KLH speakers if they came from the era when Harry Kloss was designing them.
