Just got this receiver, surround sound great but is there a way to hook in outdoor speakers to system that will play the same source as what's on surround? Thanks.

You can run the outdoor speakers from zone 2.
Your manual explains it, (rather badly).
The drawback is that the source will need to be an analog one. Digital is not passed through.

I got zone 2 to work, however I then noticed that the manual states "you cannot select the same input source in multiple zones simultaneously". I would like to hear the same source on my two patio speakers as indoors.

Any suggestions?

Yes you can, just run a redundant analog cable.

Thanks, hate to be stupid, but... "run redundant analog cable"...can you be more specific, using what jacks, connecting what? Thanks again.

That statement only applies to zone2/3 not the main zone.

If you're only running a digital connection from the source you want to hear, you also need to use an analog stereo connection as well for zone 2/3 usage.
