I'm installing a Yamaha RX-V2500 but it has to be put behind a cabinet door. This makes it impossible to control with a remote control. I always see on the back of the recievers IR remote ports labled in and out.. I need a link to something that would act as an eye that i could plug into one of those ports and run the wired eye to an outside viewable area where the remote can get to it.

I combed Yamaha's website on any info/ parts and there isn't any help there. I'm really stuck here and i dont' want to buy one of those $300 IR repeaters that take up a lot of room.. since i'm not going room to room or anything.. i just need a 3 meter eye or soemthing

links or info would be very helpful (or even a link to something to buy)

Thanks

Travis

If you go to Parts Express or eBay you can find IR repeater systems that aren't terribly expensive.

Room to room or 2 feet require the exact same setup though. The signal has to be received by a IR receiver, sent down a wire, then converted back to an IR signal on the other end. There is no real way around it, and some IR receivers are far more expensive - and reliable - than others.

For about $250 you could get the Home Theater Master MX-350 and the MR-100/150 RF base station. You run emitter wires from the base station to inside the av cabinet. Although the instructions will say to place the emitter ON the receiver's IR eye, the signal is so powerful that as long as they are simply near the receiver, it will work (ie place them inside the av cabinet and the signal will bounce around inside and be seen by the IR eye of the receiver).

I personally think that would be a better solution because not only do you solve the problem with the IR eye of the receiver being out of sight, you also won't have to aim the remote at the IR repeater.
