Hey everyone,

I have reviewed a few posts here and there is some excellent advice. I am having an issue I havent seen on here and could use some myself. I have a Pioneer VSX-D812.

A few weeks ago I pressed something on the remote and couldnt get sound from tv/sat anymore. The unit powers on and acts normally from the menu and such but no sound. AM/FM works as does my PS3. Well I couldnt figure out what I pressed so I searched out the factory reset and boom back in action.

Well....tonight I talking to my kids with the remote in my hand and think I might have pressed something but no remote combination I can press undoes it. So now I am thinking there may be another issue altogether. I tried to reset it and it doesnt respond to the reset. (hold down tone and power button for 3 seconds)

Is my unit hosed? Not sure what else to do.

Thanks!

Something else to add. I have had this receiver for 10 years or so. I havent had any issues. I am now using a Logitech Harmony remote and its only seemed to happen with that remote.

I am using a toslink cable and the signal reads analog on the LCD. I never payed attention to it, is this normal? I moved the link from tv/sat optical in to the md/cd optical in and it still reads analog and it still doesnt work.

I was wrong about the ps3 it seems only the radio works. :(

Bummer.

Welcome to the forum! I thought that it might be that you were accidentally toggling between the digital and analog inputs, and your second post makes me think that even more.

To test this, go to the front panel of the Pioneer behind the flip-down door and press the "SIGNAL SELECT" button until the LCD reads either "Auto" or "Digital" (because you are using the digital inputs). If that gets your sound back, then we know what the issue is - then we just have to figure out what on the new remote is causing it. :) Btw, I think that you need to select the input signal type on each input.

I thought that too and tried the signal select and unless I am doing something wrong the button appears to do nothing. I hit it and the lcd will brighten slightly so I know the button isnt broken but I get no change to anything when pressing it. Weird huh?

BTW, thanks for the quick reply :)

Happy to help when I can! Although, I haven't yet. :)

I only mention this because you reset the unit - did you reassign the digital inputs (if needed)? One of those optical inputs should default to the "TV" input, and that sounds like what you were using. However, if no digital input is assigned to a source, that might explain why the input won't switch from "Analog" to anything else. I'll look a bit more at the manual and see if anything catches my attention.
