I am trying to find the best value or a 2.1 system my budget is around a 1000. I was leaning towards bookshelf speakers with a sub. The room would be a large room 3500 cubic feet. Her music taste vary from classical to pop/hip hop. The mix would be 70 % music 30% tv/movies. I am open to any ideas sounds quality over aesthetics.

What I'm currently looking at.

Philharmonic AA monitor 195/pr

Hsu vtf 3 (she lives in an apt maybe in sealed mode or a sealed sub. Or does it even matter??)

I have a denon x2100 I would use for the speakers.

Please let me any comments concerns or any options you may have.

Philharmonic AA monitor and Hsu VTF 3 sealed(Better for music)or maybe FVX15 Direct Servo Subwoofer. I've never heard either one, but they are highly regarded here. Dennis M does great work.

The VTF3 blows your budget a bit. If she likes to crank her bass, then yes, that is the sub for her, but if you don't see her doing that, it is definitely overkill. I might step down to a VTF2. The VTF3 is a great sub though.

Yeah it's a little over budget. I might go down to a VTF 2. Thank you for all the replies.

If teh OP is looking for a sealed sub, why are ported subs being recommended? Am I misreading HSU's webpage?
