HELP on First AV Receiver!

Good day all.. I am planning to get my first AV receiver for my room setup(3m x 4m). Daily usage for PS3, Cable TV & music/movies from Macbook Pro.

I have a Wharfedale Diamond 10.1 which is currently connected to a SMSL SA-50. Sounds nice but i just wanna do a lil upgrade. Nothing high end. Just decent and sweet. And possibly all connected to the receiver via HDMI sharing a 32" LED TV for display.

I have Denon 1612 & Yamaha RX-V471 in the list at he moment. Basically i just dunno where to start. Read reviews on these two and they're not that bad. Planning to add another speaker in the near future too but i dunno should i get a center or subs. I am a noob in all this and i hope i can get the best help here.

Ok please flood this space. :)

Welcome. Do you have just ONE wharfedale diamond? Or the pair? Sounds like you need an entry level AVR that will handle your HDMI switching and one that has a decent DAC. What is your budget?

Budget is $500. Is this pioneer better than the Yamaha and Denon?

No Denon and Yamaha are great. I'd do any one of these:

DENON AVR-2312CI 7.2 Integrated Network A/V Surround Receiver | Accessories4less

Onkyo TX-NR808 7.2-Channel 3-D Ready Network A/V Receiver | Accessories4less

People are going to tell you to get the Denon or Yamaha over the Onkyo because Onkyo has had some heat issues. I have an Onkyo 708 and so far it is performing flawlessly with limited (less than 2 inches, more like 1) head space. But I am also not driving the 2 mains with it (separate amp) and have a refurb with 2 year warranty.

hey guys thanks for the replies.. keep it coming.

Yes i read about the Onkyo heat issue and yes kinda gimme the doubts about it. Don't you guys think that 7.2 system would be an overkill? Scared the rest of the slots would be under utilize. hahaha

Denon 1612 - 110W/ch x 5. No Airplay but with Audyssey. USB for iPod since i have a couple of them lying around the house.

Yamaha RXv-471 - 105W/ch Burr Brown DAC for all channels.

Onkyo TX-NR509 - 160W/ch @ 6oms (wharf's are 6ohms). Audyssey, Burr Brown DAC for all channels.

Onkyo TX-NR808 - I hope this is within my budget. It has tonnes of features. Faroudja. 4 DSP gaming modes. yummy...

Ok thats on the list. What you guys think so far?
I am in Singapore and i don't see Denon 2312 on their site. There is 2311 or 3312. You guys in the west seems to have better products i huh?? haha

The main thing you want, is good overall power handling in
the surround mode - with Yamaha I prefer the 6XX series on
up. Also, I have had good luck buying refurbish receivers from
the AC4L company.

I saw their prices. Hell yeah they are cheap!! But their refurbishes items reliable? and i dunno how much its gonna cost me for the shipping tho. hehe
Checking it out as we speak! hehe.. thanks dude!
