I will be needing a FP in within the next 2 months or so. I am finishing up a family/TV room which is 25 x 20 with an 11 foot high cathedral ceiling. The projector will probably be mounted around 10' high and about 18 or 19 feet from the screen wall, but it can be put anywhere along the main ridge beam which will be exposed partly. Seating distance will be about 11 or 12' from screen. Screen size is not a problem since the room is 25' wide. I was thinking at least a 100" screen. I will be putting my Klipsch THX Ultra2 speaker system in the room. Any input will be greatly appreciated. I will be wiring the room over the next month or so.

That's a great size room - awesome.

You'll need something with a longish-throw lens. Most of the ~$2k consumer models will shoot a 100-inch screen from ~10-13 feet. Since you're sitting so close (a bit too close, actually) you'll want to go with either 1080p, DLP, LCOS, or something with smoothscreen if you're set on LCD (Panasonic). 11-12 feet is just about the limit for most LCD projectors for getting out of screen door range on a 100-inch screen.

You should try to mount the projector at its minimum throw distance. The height will be determined how high the top of the screen is and that height is determined by size of course and how high you mount it. Just remember how theaters are set up, modern theaters, and not the first row.
You don't want the screen high or you will have a sore neck after a 2 hr movie, or a double show:D
So, all these are interdependent.
That 10-12ft throw distance Clint mentioned is pretty close, maybe 13ft for some. I think you will find that the projector will be much lower than that 10ft mark:rolleyes:

I would personally recommend the BenQ W10000 which is getting solid reviews and has many of the features that you may really be after. Like it or not, DLP simply is a half step better with black levels than LCD is managing, and at the same time, tends to keep a bit more brightness on the screen with those black levels.

Throw into this that if you aren't retentive about cleaning the air filters on LCD you will end up destroying the polarizers inside and the LCD will start to look 'yellow' over time. This is often not covered under warranty.

Why the BenQ? Well, it's a couple grand more than the competing LCD projectors, but it includes lens shift, a good zoom range, and a THREE YEAR warranty standard. As a DLP projector it should not have a air filter to clean which will lower your maintenance time, and should increase reliability.

The biggest issue? Perhaps the throw distance.

Thanks to all for the feedback. Tomorrow I will check the sitting distance with a bit more accuracy to see if I can sit 13 or 14 feet back. The problem with the room set up is that we are limited to sit in the 20 foot distance and not the 25 foot area. As far as the projector height, it can hang down some without being noticed. I will try to nail down the particulars since I am just finishing the sheeting and roofing respectively. I want the WOW effect and I believe the speakers I have will do the job (3 KL-650, 2 KS-525 with a KW-120 and Amp). So I need a great projector and possibly a receiver upgrade (have a Yammie 1400).

You they make projector lifts that would hug the ceiling and lower the projector when needed. Mine comes down about 26" if I remember it correctly:D

Ok, I measured the distance and the couches can sit back 14 feet. This gives me 4 feet to walk behind off the step from kitchen area.
