I'm new to the forum and this is my first. Apologies if this repeats anything from previous posts...

I have a Yamaha HTR-6160 (From Futureshop in Canada) and Panasonic BD-30 Blu-Ray Player. I can't get the receiver to show TrueHD or DTS-MA on the main display using an HDMI connection.

On the BD-30:
-I have set all formats to "bitstream" and "secondary audio" is off.
-"PCM conversion" is also off
-Just upgraded to Firmware 1.8

On the Yamaha decoder is set to Auto. I've now tried several different movies with TrueHD and DTS-HD MA audio tracks. In each case, the panasonic shows the correct audio track (Pressing the Audio Button shows "TrueHD Multi" or "DTS-HD Multi" as selected in the menu options) but the Yamaha only displays the core audio track either Dolbly Digital or DTS(-ES).

I haven't found anything that says why this shouldn't work. I've also tried changing HDMI cables and disconnecting my TV (passed through Yamaha over HDMI) in case it's some weird HDMI handshake issue.

Any thoughts?

Since neither format works, is the Panasonic failing to pass the full bitstream?

You have done everything right but did you also connect a digital coax or optical cable to the 6160. If you did, and you forgot to assign the BD input in the 6160 to HDMI, you may be getting the core track from the digital connection.

Thanks for your reply PENG.

I am only using the HDMI. I've also tried toggling the audio source on the receiver between HDMI and AUTO and it doesn't do anything either.

I don't know whether the receiver or blu-ray player might be to blame.

I think I might try exchange the BD-30. I've never had issues with receivers or DVD players before, even some refurbished units.

FYI.

It seems the Panasonic was defective. I exchanged it for a new one and it worked perfectly right away.

Thanks for the feedback. Even though you can now use the 663 to decode you may want to try out using the PCM output as well because the Panasonic may decode better. I think it is one of the better BD players on the market right now.
