I am looking for any suggestions or input on my new Home Theatre setup.

Epson 9500UB Pro Cinema Projector
106" Crystal Screen (16:9) Fixed
Angstrom Obbligato Floor standing Speakers, No center channel
Sunfire True Sub EQ Solitaire 10" 1250W
Pioneer Elite BDP23-FD Blu-Ray Player or maybe switching out to the OPPO
Integra DHC 80.1 Preamplifier/Processor
Integra DTA 70.1 9 Channel Amplifier
2 Angstrom In ceiling speakers with a 15 degree angle with 6.5" VECTRAN Driver
PS3
RTI t2-CS Remote

Just wondering if any of you have have any thoughts on this setup, mainly on the pre-amp, amp and the front speakers as these make up the bulk of the overall cost.

Thanks in advance.

and you "need" a 9 channel amp for a 4.1 setup ..... why ?
what are you gaining with a very expensive pre/pro & amp setup you would not get from a high end receiver at less cost ?

and with a large screen, you really are going to need a good center channel speaker. "Phantom" center with just the L & R front speakers will give you a very small stereo sweet spot for the dialog. Anyone sitting more to the sides will have a problem hearing the dialog "fixed" to the screen.

The biggest reason for the 9 channel Amp is scalability. If/when I move or want to add additional channels as I see fit I dont want to be having to upgrade the AMP as well.

The seperates vs the receiver is a good question and one that I agreee I may not need. Depending on who you speak to the answer is always different with good reasons supporting both sides but the cost going to the sperates from a high end receiver was not that much so I decided to go this route.

I did get a chance to demo the Obbligato speakers in a home theatre setting with no center channel and I felt they sounded fantastic, did not notice any issues with dialogue, and when doing just straight audio they were the best speakers I have heard at this price point.

I think what m_vanmeter is trying to say is getting hi-end pre-pro might NOT be best idea in the terms of price/benefit. Changing AVR for separate while giving you extra flexibility and maybe 1-3% in SQ - price of this change skyrockets and generally it's advised vs it so you invest more in most important component responsible for sound quality - your speakers..

I'd rec getting solid Denon, Marantz or Onkyo Mid/Mid-Hi Range 7.2 AVR and make sure it has pre-outs - You could always external amp later on.

I have no doubt you heard and loved them, but I think you might want to give Mr Jim Salk a call and have these auditioned. http://www.audioholics.com/reviews/speakers/floorstanding/salk-songtower-qwt

under $2000 (US) will likely get you similar or better SQ than Angstrom and about $3000 change in the pocket to spend for center speaker or upgrade to higher model:

Everyone who ever heard both of these or owns them - simply in love....

ps; I wish i could afford to spend so much on my toys...:(

Thanks for the thought, but I have already signed my life away. I have no doubt that there are many different options I could have gone with but I am comfortable with my decison (I think!!!!) although I am waffling a bit on adding that center channel.

If you ever get a chance give those Obbligato's a demo, I would love to hear what you think.

Well, if the deed is already done - I think you'll enjoy it, at least until Upgratesis will kick in

I'd love to hear them or at the least read AH review :D
They certainty have picked top-of-the-line components: Scanspeak and Vifa , i'm just not sure if 5g is a good price for them. thats all

Why does this happen so often? Threads that are all about "How did I do?". We don't want to be rude, of course. At least most of the time.

But, now that your life has been signed away . . . do you really want to hear what others would have done otherwise?

Why didn't you ask BEFORE you signed your life away?
