Anyone who can help-
I recently upgraded my DVD Player from a Panasonic DVD-RV31 to a Toshiba SD-5960. I got this DVD Player open box (so no remote) but was able to get a different Toshiba remote to access all the menus. The problem is this- now that i've switched DVD players, I'm no longer decoding the Dolby 5.1 signal!
I'm using a fiber optic cable for the Digital audio, going to a Sony STR-DE685. With the Panasonic, I was able to decode Dolby 5.1, but not DTS audio- now it is the reverse!
Movies that I have tested with are LOTR3 (for Dolby 5.1) and Kill Bill vol. 1 (DTS decoded fine). Instead of the typical Dolby 5.1 message that flashes across my receiver when it's set to auto-decode, I instead get "PCM 48", and it proceeds to decode into a 2.1 signal.
I've talked with Toshiba and Sony both, and they had nothing intelligent to add, except Sony said "We recommend that you use coax for the audio output". I'd rather not go and dish out another 70 bucks on a cable, so I was hoping someone would have some things I could try / any advice?
This is my current configuration-
TV: Panasonic PT-50LC13
DVD: Toshiba SD-5960 Progressive Scan DVD Player
Monster HDMI/DVI cable to the TV
Monster Fiber Optic cable to the receiver
Receiver: Sony STR-DE685
Thanks in advance!!
