My friend and I are trying to set up our home theater system.
We purchased the Sony DA 7100ES 170W x 7 channel Receiver/Amplifier with 2 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output. It is also supposed to do Signal Up-Scaling for S-Video and Composite.
We signed up for the HD Cable with DVR package through Adelphia. The DVR is a Motorola Maxi DVR.
We are feeding the Motorola MAXI DVR to the Sony via a HDMI cable to INPUT 1.
A HDMI DVD player is plugged into the HDMI Input 2 on the receiver.
Here is our current problem.
We switch the Sony to the HDMI Input 2 and can hear and see the DVD movie. Great quality, seems a little clearer than Component.
The DVR is set to a HD channel, 907 in our case (Channel 7 for Southern Californians)
We switch the input to HDMI 1 and get absolutely nothing.
Without changing anything, we disconnect the HDMI cable from INPUT 1 and plug it in directly to the HDMI input on the Plasma. Video is displayed beautifully. Plug the HDMI cable back into the Sony receiver, and no signal or output.
I have tried to mess with all the settings on the Motorola that relate to the HDMI signal, but nothing works. (everything from selecting the signal type
i.e. progressive only, 720P, and omitting 480I, 1080I, etc..., to screen options, letterbox, wide, cropped, etc..)
If I turn off the Sony for 10 seconds, and turn it on with the HDMI input 1 set, I can see a picture for a split second before it disappears.
So my ultimate question is this: Do I need to do some sort of firmware upgrade, could it be that my DVR and Sony are incompatible, even though for 1 second I get video, are there different HDMI cables that I must consider when plugging in directly to a receiver?
This has become on battle of epic proportions to get this to work. If anyone can help my greatest thanks!
