help needed with receiver setup

Hey!

i have Denon avr-1805 receiver and i dont know much about setting it up.
I connected it with PC soundcard 3.5mm out and 2x rca aux in in receiver, not sure if it even should work like that. Problem is i cant get sub-out to work and if i set fronts to small it mutes speakers. Right now i take sub signal from audio out-tape but it leaves me with no control over the sub:/
In receiver setting sub is set to yes and sw mode +main, tried both but nothing.

Any suggestions/help?

Do a google search for an owners manual. These things can be pretty funky to set up and are far from intuitive. You do have the remote, don't you?

I'd start with the manual as well. Do you know if this was a fully functioning unit before your setup?

You sure about the model number? I get nothing on Denon's site. Does this model have Audyssey? If so, do you have the microphone to do the auto setup?

Its a microphone specific to Audyssey and somewhat the receiver (think there's only two different models of mic IIRC). Might check with Denon or on ebay for a replacement mic. May not be worth it as it seems your settings should yield no muting of the front speakers, set to small just means use bass management and range above crossover should still come out of the speaker rather than mute, plus the subwoofer out should work as well. Manual if anyone sees something I don't https://assets.denon.com/documentmaster/uk/bed_avr-1508.pdf

I would also test the amp with other input signal types to see if they have the same issue. Connect a HDMI DVD/Bluray player if you have one and test it with a CD or something. Other option is digital SPDIF input which your computer may have an output for and will give better quality using the AVR to do the Digital to analog conversion than your PC. If your sound card on your PC has no optical or coaxial SPDIF digital audio output then you can get a cheap sound card that does that will connect via USB or connected via an internal PCI/PCI-E slot. You may also have another device that has a digital output port like most TV's do to test with.

Well i tried with TV-s optical out and it didnt make any sound at all. TV menu dont have even the option to send signal to optical out, only headphones and audio out and these are both 3.5mm. I also turned TV-s internal speakers off. well i continue my journey to find the solution but maybe i should stick with 2channel amp:D

TV optical out is often always on in most TV's. You have options to turn off the internal speakers which means sound will only come from optical or headphone outputs. You also normally have one setting to set the optical between PCM and bitstream mode but this only has a few effects. If you have a proper TOSLINK optical cable from TV -> AVR and the input is selected correctly on the AVR and the input settings for that input are setup correctly then you should get audio. One thing that gets me sometimes is the TOSLINK cables have to be pushed in all the way and sometimes you think they are inserted but they are in fact out a bit.

Also the inputs on the AVR are often customisable and assignable meaning you have to make sure the optical input you connect to is in fact assigned the to the input you want. Also there is a setting for each input as to if it will use digital, analog or HDMI audio but it should default to 'AUTO' which picks which ever is connected with a set priority.
