Hi all,

Firstly thanks for taking the time to read my post, I'll try keep it brief.

I am looking to buy a new home cinema speaker system. I have my heart set on the Onkyo TX-SR608 receiver and will be purchasing within the next day or so.

The problem I am having is trying to decide on a set of speakers. I have 3 sets in mind at the moment.
1/ Tannoy SFX Compact 5.1 system
2/ Boston Soundware XS 5.1 system
3/ Monitor Audio Vector 5.1 system

The room where I will be putting the system is around 4.5m x 3.5m.

Currently I am using my pc sound system as our home cinema system and this is the Logitech z5500.

I will be buying the amp probably tomorrow but at the moment can't afford the speakers but will be buying them next month. My budget is around €300-€400.

Can anyone recommend any of the above or any other speakers that would suit the amp?

Thanks again for your help

I am not familiar with any of the above speakers you listed, but I do have the receiver you are wanting to buy. This receiver does not have pre-outs, so if I were you i would choose the speakers that are the easiest to drive, onne's that require the least power. This receiver puts out about 80watts a channel in 5 channel mode and about 35 watts a ch in 7 channel mode. Therefore I would definitely stick to a 5.1 system and not even consider a 7.1.

The point is, because you will not be able to use an external amp with this receiver, choose a speaker which will not need an amp.

I will say that I am pleased with the way this receiver drives my floorstanding polk m70s, m60s and the cs2 center ch. I do wish I could add an external amp thought...

I just realized those are all HT component speaker systems, this receiver will provide more than enough power to feed those...
