Current set up:

The present set up 7.1: Denon AVR4802R
Polk Lsi9 surround sounds-2 front, 2 side, 2 rear
Polk Lsic center channel
Infinity Northridge E250P subwoofer
BenQ PE8700 projector
Oppo bdp-83 blueray player
PS3, X-Box 360, Scientific Atlanta HD-HDMI 1080i cable box
Room size: 25’ long x 12’ wide with an 8’ ceiling
Projector is located 12’-6” from front of screen. Screen size viewable 91” wide x 52” high
Seating centrally located.

Thinking of upgrading to a Panasonic PT-AE4000U for 1080P
The new Denon maybe a AVR-4810ci
A new Sub like the SVS PB13 Ultra (may wait for the 16" Ultra)

PROBLEM: Is 3d t.v. around the corner and what about 1.4hdmi for 2010? What is the move; invest 6K to upgrade or hold off a few months for 1.4hdmi?
How soon will this new "BIG" deal of 3D be incorporated into everyday usable products?

I always go to the audioholics for expert advice, that is where I learned to run the oppo through the denon 4802 to get the latest hd sound!

Please advise!

Most movies aren't in 3D. Just sayin'. I really don't know what HDMI 1.4 will bring, but I honestly can't imagine my theater experience being improved dramatically in the near future due to stuff like that. The most I do is simply follow which releases are given stellar transfers and which aren't.

So, your receiver is powering your difficult Lsi just fine, and you also have access to lossless formats. IOW, there is NOTHING you have in mind specifically to improve?

Subs are cool, and if I did it all over again, now knowing that it's a dedicated HT sub at this point, I'd hire a friend to build me a cabinet for some potent driver. Or, for similar money to the SVS, maybe a Captivator for 1k + amp of choice.

As for PJ upgrade, I didn't know you had a DLP, and you really ought to look first before changing tech. There are a number of folks who really like their DLP, and have a hard time changing. Even between LCD and LCOS are the techs pretty different, the former having the lowest fill ratio, and the latter having the highest. Also, it's quite probable that your PJ is brighter than most units that you will probably look at as candidates. DLP is usually considered sharpest, as the pixel structure is very defined.

Dual subs would be my next move or go with one sub and some room treatments. I think those are the biggest two areas of opportunity for increased enjoyment from your system. A good subwoofer and room treatments are a better investment imo as well. Once your room is treated, it's done... no upgrading from there. A good sub or 2 can keep you happy for years and years. Receiver tech changes too fast to try and keep up and I'm sure you have a pretty damn fine picture with that PJ and the oppo already.
I think the SVS is a nice sub, one of the best really. But, alot of the time it's better to get a pair of subs. I'd look into elemental designs, epik, and av123.com for a nice pair of subs. Do your research and take your time.

My question is, if 3D is around the corner; are you prepared to wear glasses to enjoy it?

Personally I could care less about 3D.

The new Denon AVR-4810CI = YES.

The SVS PB13 Ultra Plus = YES (two of them). :)

Sony 8k HD projector = Way to go.

The only thing I see missing from your list is, room treatments. I believe your question as been answered :). On the audio side, it will make a much more discernable difference in sound quality compared to upgrading the AVR. Regarding adding a sub, if the current one is sufficient for the main listening position, the primary gain from adding a second one will be a more even low end frequency response in more listening positions (and perhaps some improvement in the main position based on placement and settings).

On the video side, you can use this calculator and determine, based on screen size and viewing distance, if you will benefit from upgrading to 1080p.

Incidently, care to post a pic of your M3 in the Steam Vent, car thread :D?

Please have mercy on my ignorance……what exactly is meant by “Treatments”?

Treatments = Sound absorbing or diffusing pannels placed at strategic locations around the room to help control the peaks and dips. This is needed when there are large scale problems with room layout and listening position leading to freq response problems that cannot be corrected via processing (eg. Audessy).

This site offers a reasonably priced product. Not only that, they have a free service, wherein you send them your room information and they will tell you exactly what kind of treatments and their location for best results.

Another option is our beloved GIKacoustics. They have panels you can put pictures on. I'm considering using that and putting fun movie pics on it when I get a theater.
