Well this it my first real post. Great site. I have picked up a lot of great info from you guys. I decided to go the DIY route with my sub and figured I would go the sono route. We the only sono tube I could find locally was 12" at Lowes. Everything else (24") had to be special ordered and it was going to cost me $144 for the tube because you had to order a minimum of 12’. Well I lucked up on some 30” tube at a good price. I have had it for about two months and have decide that I was going to start on my project but after doing some research I found out that it is going to be tooooooo big to fit through the door of my media room . So I guess if anyone is interested I have a great deal on some 30” sonotube unless some one has a better Idea of what I can do with it. I guess now I am going to build a regular box.

At first glance, granted it's 2 a.m., I thought the thread title read "Help! My Soulmate will not fit through the door."

Sorry.

That’s great. Fortunately she has no problem but as for my DIY tube I can’t say the same. I guess I should have done a little more research.

You need the thick sonotube anyway, so if you found that 30" stuff at Lowe's or Home Depot you didn't get the right stuff. Call up your local concrete suppliers--the companies the concrete builder companies buy from.

I didn't pick this up at lowes or HD. I picked this up at a concret mix place. They just happend to have it around and wanted to get rid of it so i thought it was a good deal but i guess it wasn't since I can't use it .

you have a door that's less than 30"? if you remove the door itself, will the sonotube fit through the door jamb?

over here, our bathroom doors are a minimum of 27.5", out bedroom doors are 31.5" and our main doors are a minimum of 35.4"

It’s a 32” door but I think like you said Mike it is actually 31.5” wide. I figure by the time I add the MDF top and bottom caps with a little bit of over hang I don’t know if it will fit. The max over hang I can go is ¾” all the way around and I wanted to do at least a 1” just for looks and extra support on the caps. Do you guys have any other suggestions or want a good deal on some 30” sono tube ?

so there's no chance to finish the ends outside, but assemble everything inside?

how long is the sonotube?

I thought about putting it together in the room but my wife would kill me if I got liq nail on the floor:eek:. It is going to be around 36" long without the legs. Do you think I should just try to sell or throw away the sono tube and just build a regular box?

Take a cardboard box, flatten it, and put the thing together in the room on the cardboard box. Unless you let a kid help, you should be able to keep liquid nails off of the floor.

And remember... when it comes to women, It's easier to ask for forgiveness then permission!

Thanks for all the help. I have just started on a regular box. I got to thinking that if we sell the house I will have to leave the sub in the room or cut the tube up so I can get it out of the room .
