Help- My HK recevier won't play 7.1

I have an HK 430 which will not allow me to play 7.1 in dolby digital or prologicIIx. Hk tech's told me four different things and one finally told me today to send it back.

My speakers are set to small and all hooked up properly. I can get 7.1 out of logic and stereo, but no prologic or dolby. The front lights blink, but no sound at all comes out of the speakers when i get to the seven speaker input on dolby.

Any suggestions before i send it back on what may be wrong. 5.1 comes in great on the tv and dvd. I can't get prologic11X to work at all in any mode. One tech today told me that prologicIIx only will work on tv movies.

Dolby info

Here is my understanding of is that you can engage dolby pro logic on 2 channel or multichannel sources. On a 2 channel souce, like CD, pro logic will create a "simulated" surround sound effect using the rear channels. On a 5.1 or 6.1 channel source, it will add the surround back speakers.
Before shipping back the receaver, I would try a DVD that has a 6.1 channel sound track see if you can hear the surround backs.

Do you have anything connected to the 7ch input? I am not aware of any players that have a 6.1 analog output, which means if you are using the multichannel analog input then you will ONLY be able to get 5.1 because the PLAYER determines what you get when using this input, not the receiver.

speakers

I have seven speakers hooked up to the seven inputs. In logic 7 i get all 7 speakers working properly as it is converting the two channell source into the "ghosting" effect for the rear surrounds.

My rear speakers will not work at all in pro logic(which it should) nor will Dolby Digital 7.1 work. HK went thru tests and told me to send the unit back as it should be showing up 7.1

Oh Well!

connections

Zeuss,
Just to clarify, your receiver has 7 speaker level OUTPUTS from the receiver's amplifiers. Not to be confused with the 7.1 analog INPUTS which are usually used for connection to an SACD or DVD-Audio player.

It sounds like you are using a digital optical or coax connection from the DVD player to the receiver, correct?

yes the 7 speakers are hooked to the input. The receiver is a 7.1 receiver(avr 430 harman kardon)

I have it hooked up via a coaxial cable although i even tried using optical to see if it would change. No such luck--Hk told me to send it back today and they think it is something internal. ?

try analog

You might have a problem with the processor...but before you send it back, Make sure the input for the specific source is set to analog (you will need to hook up both digital (coax or optical line) and an analog line (red and white stereo RCA) from the cable box) if you want to use an artificial 7.1 format.

If it is a digital input, it will only play in the format it is decoded in (ususlly DD 5.1 if using cable). You can switch back and forth to get the desired format from specific sources.

The 7.1 will only play if the source is in 5.1 or in analog-just hook op both and switch at your discression
