What specs do you look at to know what tv's are better?

Resolution (min of 1280X720)
Response Time (for video 8ms-12ms is pretty good)
Viewing angle (LCDs start to lose pic quality when you move to the sides)
Connectivity (how many inputs)

In my opinion LG makes some of the best LCDs. They are one the few companies that actually make their own lcd panel. Wide viewing angle, 8ms response time and with a life expectancy of 60 to 100k hours.

My only gripe with LG LCDs is the fact that the blacks "glow" when you're viewing from an angle. That really, really bothers me, so because of that, I would never buy one. They do, however, have pretty good picture when viewing directly, but only at that angle.

Resolution is the big one (480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i, 1080p). But, don't forget to look at what type of video inputs are available on the tv. Make sure its got at least 1 HDMI input, preferably 2. This is really going to come down to what your sources are i.e. DVD player, Cable Box, Satellite Box, XBOX/PS2..etc.
