Help me troubleshoot OSD for Pioneer VS-918V-K AVR

I am trying to help a friend with AVR.
However, I cannot get the OSD up on the TV.
I'm not that much of a HT guy and have never touched a Pioneer AVR, so I want to double check before I declare the AVR defective!
I originally had a HDMI connection from AVR to TV and it worked fine for the signal from BD player (also via HDMI) however no OSD. I went to the manual and read that the OSD does not work using HDMI - it has to be component or composite!
So I ran a RGB connector from AVR to TV. However, when I try to connect via component input, TV does not sense ANY signal so I get neither the movie nor the OSD!
Are the outputs assignable in such a way that the component output might be dead?
Is there any setting or connection configuration which would explain what is happening?
Thanks!

Have you tried to get the OSD via composite instead of component? That may be a way to get it that way, no?

From the last time I owned a Pioneer AVR I think that what you are saying is correct. Seems that the OSD would ONLY work via component. If I remember correctly it was the Pioneer 1015. Been a long time though.

You may need to look at the back of the AVR for a yellow "Monitor Out" RCA connector

Does your tv need to be told what type of input from the receiver? Did you disconnect the hdmi cable?

Try factory resetting the unit

Thanks for the responses!
Hopefully I won't have to put this AVR out to pasteur...
It may be Friday before I get a chance to try these approaches...just checking in to say I appreciate the help!

If you can do a factory reset as advised above, that may help. It is real simple on the Denon. Not sure about the Pioneer though. Good luck Kurt!

Also you can't run BD/DVD player to AVR with HDMI and connect TV using component - it's not supported and in fact prohibited . It has to be component all the way

What caught my eye was the wording in the manual about what happens when the HDMI cable is connected....and some tvs may need input setup manually. Good luck!
