Ok so here is the deal. I want to stream video (non HD content at least for the time being) and possibly audio from a lap top in the kitchen to my TV in the family room.

I have a Yamaha RV X865 receiver with the following item connected to it:

DirectV DVR - via HDMI
Sony PS3 - Via HDMI
Sony - DVD / VCR via RCA cables
Wii - via RCA cables ( I think)

This leaves one open HDMI on the receiver which is labeled DVD.

As far as I can tell I think my options are the following:

Running an SVGA cable from the Laptop to the TV and using computer for audio. Down side is that the audio will be weak, running the cable will be a pain. The upside is that it will only cost around $25 - $30 for the cable.

Then the other day I see this product on the Audioholics cover page and it gets me thinking.

I guess my question is if I use the HDMI import on the receiver will the receiver be able to still use the DVD player that I have connected through the RCA cable while the HDMI cable is plugged into the receiver? In other words can I have two components plugged into the receiver using the DVD input, one HDMI and one RCA and the receiver will be able to know which one is powered on? The downside to this is the cost of the HDair being $200 more than the SVGA cable, but I should be able to get audio throughthe receiver also. I would also then be able to plug the USB connector into a diffferent computer and also stream things, ie movies from I-Tunes I would think.

Any thoughts or other suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for you help.

First I will say that the Altona product will probably be the simplest wireless solution our there. 219 seems reasonable and you can probably find it cheaper on the internet. I found it at buy.com for 153 shipped http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=211559643&listingid=55825381

As far as your input questions. The answer is maybe. I think the HDMI inputs are assignable to any input or maybe active by itself. Go into your OSD and see if you can assign the HDMI connection to another input you are not using.

Yes, please let us know what you think of it. Wireless PC extenders are typically of very low quality, but they also typically cost $40 or less which means they have lousy electronics. This one is priced a bit more realistically for having better electronics in it.

Remember, depending on what type of videos or information you want to get from your PC to the TV, your PS3 can connect and read files directly off your computer and play them back. I've heard from tons of people that play back video files from their PC this way.
