I have a Yamaha HTR-5990 and I am trying to take advantage of the video upconversion that my receiver is capable of and I am running into a problem. I have the following components hooked up to my receiver:

DVD via HDMI
PS2 via Component Video
Satellite Receiver via S-Video (Yes I know I need to upgrade to an HD receiver)

I cannot get any of the components to output through the HDMI output, I get sound from everything just no video. I have video upconversion turned on and I have HDMI upconversion turned on. I have already tried using 2 diffrent HDMI cables from my receiver to my TV without any success. I have

I need some advice from anyone that has this receiver or anyone that has any ideas on how to get my video through the HDMI output.

Thanks for the help.

Yamaha setup

Your new receiver has a pretty complicated setup. For each audio source (DVD, satellite, PS2, VCR, etc.) your receiver has a "default" video connector (probably S-Video or composite). If you are not using this default connection, then you have to tell the receiver which video input to use (i.e. DVD = HDMI 1, PS2 = component 1, satellite = svideo 1, etc.)

Once you complete this step, you will probably have video switching working properly.

Also there will be a menu option under display settings to "Turn Video Up-Conversion ON". Dont forget to set it to "YES". If not, it will not work even with the correct connections !!
