Help me find exotic looking cheap speakers

I have a coworker who is looking for speakers. She is an older woman and is really interested in her interior decoration. She has seen me browsing here and has asked for my advice, but I'm a bit stumped.

Basically, she cares mostly about the looks, and very little about the sound. At first I thought she might want Gallo or Orb type small speakers. But she is actually really impressed by some of the more exotic looking speakers. She liked various Martin Logans, Onix Strata and X-static, Scandyna Megapod, Gallo Ref 3.1, Urban Fidelity/Duevel Planets, etc. She also liked fancy monitor speakers on stands such as Usher X-718 and B&W 805S. I think she almost wants a conversation piece that will also play background music.

The problem is she doesn't really want to spend much. Certainly not the $1k+ that some of those cost. And frankly I wouldn't feel good knowing that a higher end speaker is being wasted like that. But surely there must be some compromise.

Please suggest any fairly cheap yet high end looking speakers you can think of. So far I've come up with the following:

NHT Classic 3 (probably not visually imposing enough)
Celestion AVF302 (perfect but not available anymore)
HTD level 2 towers (kind of too plain and square)

That's about it.... I'm certain there are some great looking speakers out there, most likely monitors, but I can't think of any that fit this application. Anything with decent veneer or piano black finish would be good. The more curves the better too.

Thanks

I wouldn't call them exotic, but the EMP Impression E5Ti are supposed to be beautiful...and they are a bit curvy. :) With an introductory price of $400/pair, the price might fit her needs, too. The AH store carries them in shiny black or red burl veneer.

They also come in a bookshelf version for $200/pair.

Thanks, I'll run that by her and see what she thinks. It seems that she prefers designs that are "un-speakerlike" for lack of a better term. I'm going to show her some of the Mirage models as well, see what she thinks of the exposed tweeter.

Any other suggestions? I am also going to show her the Energy Take TWR which is fairly cheap now. I think she missed the boat on those Radiient speakers a few years back, they would have been perfect.

Look at used speakers on audiogone. She might be able to find a deal on something older.

Here's one from manufacture Norh which used to be the rage on this site about 6 years ago and hasn't been heard off for awhile.

The ones I thought were most neat looking and not terrible were some of the "copper sphere" speakers I've seen on audiogon (just what they sound like, big spheres with drivers) and the solid glass ones (computer-speaker-sized).

The small Kef Bookshelves (I've got a pair of Q1s I'd part with very reasonably) are pretty striking too (though not quite as exotic).

I can think of a bunch of others (mostly horns), but they are all very expensive.
