Hello

I have no idea how to pick speakers but i was looking in newegg and they have new offers and i wanted to see if they are good. First of all my budget is $1000 for speakers, sub and receiver. Also my room is 20'x12', here are the links for the speakers that i was looking:

Polk Audio Monitor Series New Monitor 35B Compact Bookshelf Loudspeaker (Black) Pair - Newegg.com

If you guys can tell me of any other speakers, sub and receivers i will be extremely grateful.

Thanks,
Carlos E Collazo

There was a very active $1000 budget thread a few days ago. I'll see if I can find it. (Edit: here it is.) In the meantime, is this going to be entirely for music, or would you be interested in a 5.1 system for movies?

Speaking of threads a few days ago, why did you abandon the one you started before and start this one?

I haven't heard them, but I wouldn't expect very much out of them. I get the impression from reading critical reviews of them that they aren't very well braced; and if the quality of the enclosures is any indication, the crossovers are probably budget. And the tweets are plastic. "Silk polymer" sounds like marketing speak for plastic to me.

Where are you located?

Is Oregon within reasonable driving distance? This combo looks like a steal, especially if you could talk the seller into taking $500 for both towers + center. It might be worth the drive. Edit: also, found this combo in Seattle for $450. Even better! If I were anywhere near Seattle I'd be all over that, and wouldn't even try to haggle.

Add a $190 Denon E300 receiver from accessories4less, $200 for a 15" Dayton sub from parts-express, and $90 for two NXG Pro 4.1 satellites from Amazon, and you've got an amazing 5.1 system within your budget.

The MB Quart QL series came out in 2000, so you probably won't find a lot of reviews online for them. But they're German-made from before the Maxxsonics fire sale acquisition and they're excellent quality. I have the QL center channel, and I can tell you that the cabinet is built like a tank and the sound purity is crystal. This combo ought to handle any movie easily; but beyond that, should offer clarity in music revealing more nuance than you've likely ever heard outside a live concert.
