hey and thanks in advance for your advice.

I'm looking to purchase a new tv. my price range is 1000 - 2000 about. My main use for the tv will be watching tv, dvds, and a console video game. Also I have been moving alot lately, so I was looking into a TV that is easier to transport like a plasma or lcd, since they're smaller tvs. So far ive come accross the westinghouse 42 inch 1080p tv for about 1400 shipped, or the 47inch westinghouse from bestbuy for 2200 with their special warranty (which is amazing, it covers normal wear and tear) both look nice, and are quite nicely priced. the 47inch is a bit expensive for my taste, but seems like a nice tv. I'm really interested in getting the best value and size for my dollar, and it doesnt have to be the newest or best technology, since these units are sometimes over priced since they're new. anyways, any help is greatly appreciated.

The Panasonic TH-42PX60U should be a contender on your list, since it can be had for less than 1.5K online and around 1.7K at B&M stores.

The only down-side is that it's a plasma and since you plan to do some console gaming on the set, there is some risk of image-retention or burn-in in the worst case.

You might consider sticking to LCDs.

If you plan on still moving a lot, then LCD will be easier to move with less risk.

I regularly go into stores and play with LCD and plasma displays. In my opinion, the Sharp and Sony LCDs have a serious leg up in quality over Westinghouse. I would give a very serious look to the Sharp models.

Online you can pick up the Sharp 45" display for under $2K.

I'm not sure how great Best Buy Plasma is, but my brother got his 60" SXRD from there without issue and they have been around for more than 3 years.
