2 weeks ago I upgraded my Velodyne Ct100e to a Velodyne DD15. I was over the moon watching all the great movies again, until 30min ago when my neighbour came banging on the door while we were watching Jurassic Park Superbit japan DVD(that just arrived in the post today :) ) and said my system was shaking the S..t out of his house and said he couldnt put up with it anymore!. So what did I do? I invited him in for a movie night, obviously :D , he said he'll bring the beer  . So it didnt go to badly. But I need to do something to keep the peace, and NO I'M NOT TURNING IT DOWN, because I didnt spend $25,000 on a setup to listen to it softly(BTW I always turn it down after 10:30pm). I need another fix, a cheap easy fix that dosnt involve ripping the walls apart because we are renting.

Now, both houses are solid brick construction and are about 8meters apart. When I started the setup about a year ago I used plastic and heavy fabric on the windows of the HT/lounge room and weatherstrips on the doors to try and stop the sound traveling, but now I need to stop the bass traveling.

Would those Subwoofer mats help? Is there anything I can stick on the walls to deaden the bass?

Any help appreciated, cheers

What, the two houses are 25 feet apart and it still bothers the neighbors?

I am affraid not much you can do unbless you totally enclose the house with dense walls

Anything you do to the structure will lessen the bass output to you ears. The best negotiating tool is a 12 pack of beer (his preference). ;)

Might try an Auralex GRAMMA to reduce some of the vibration being put directly into the floor. May or may not help. Otherwise we'll just have to work out acceptible levels, and some times I can unleash the Velo.

cheers

MACCA, I don't care about my neighbours being happy. Their quite disruptive to my family. I was rudely awoken a few weeks back at 12am when they were lighting off fireworks  . They yak all night long, blast their music and park on my lawn. I know my Athena Sub 8 can't do much, but I'll have a lot of fun when I upgrade :D . The fun is mostly for me, not to angry my neighbours ;) . Of course if I were to crank it up in the early morning, I'd be the bad guy, through the laws eyes :( . Anyway, enjoy your DD15 MACCA, and be friends :).

I wish my neighbours were as bad as yours BJP, then I wouldnt bother listening to them just to piss em off :) .

But sadly these neighbours are great folks, probably the quietest neighbours you could have, and they've put up with the Velo ct100e chanked full blast almost every night for about 2 years, untill I got the DD15. Before they came over the other day I had no idea it was travelling into their house, mind you my kids sleep in the adjoining room without a prob, "get them young enough and you can teach 'em to do anything" :D .

cheers :)

I am thinking of getting the exact same sub....how much was it?
I paid 920.00 for a B&W ASW675 sub and want to upgrade to see what I am missing. Do you have pictures of the sub setup or any additional info to help me out and make a decision. thanks

Retail here in Australia is AU$5,399. I got it new from authorised dealer for AU$4,200(which is only $200 more than the retail price of the DD10 :D ) with V2 software.

This thing is awesome, as you can see from my problem post it has grunt. I spoke to my neighbour yesterday and he said another neighbour 4 houses up and on the other side of the road has been having to close all his windows and doors to try and stop the sound this sub makes going right through his house. I called the dealer to see if they had any acoustical platforms or such and before I had a chance to mention anything he said they've had to turn their DD15 down due to complaints from other stores, out of all of their previous subs this one is the first one they've had complaints about, and they are in a commercial district

You'll find so much more depth and detail in both music and movies. In the first fight scene of Underworld, when the rapid gunfire is going off this sub is so quick the impact of each shot is incredible. In Alien Verses Preditor there is so much deep bass especially when the preditor ship flies overhead on its approach to the site. So many others.

Check out some of the reviews here

And the Manual here

Hope this helps
cheers

MAC,

The published FR of the DD15 is ±3 dB from 15-120 Hz. If it is really that "flat" down to 15 Hz, it might be the bottom octave stuff (some of it subsonic) that's causing the problems. The really low end stuff like this can travel right through solid structures and cause other "things" (like buildings and china cabinets) to vibrate, thereby increasing the annoyance factor. The fact that your old sub was only "flat" to (assuming here - no exact data on the Ct100e) about 28 Hz or so, having all that extra SPL an extra octave or so lower might be the source of the annoyance.

How to fix it is the bigger question, obviously. Can you move? :D (OK - Kidding...a little...)

Seriously, someone further up the thread suggested our "GRAMMA" product. I have to be totally honest and let you know that whether the GRAMMA will actually in the range of 15-30 Hz is something that hasn't been tested. Since it's main function is for bass guitar and guitar amps and rigs, the lowest it ever has to perform is about 30-40 Hz. Given what I know about its design, I wouldn't be able to give my seal of approval any lower than that. Though, having said that, I know of quite a few folks with pretty substantial subs - comparable to the DD15 - that have had nothing but great things to report.

Best I can tell, an additional wall around your whole house will be largely useless. High levels of 15-30 Hz means most of the wavelengths will diffract right around even a very high, thick wall.

What you may have to do is the more common-sense-type stuff. Keep the level down at night (argh!), or buy the neighbors the aforementioned adult beverages (anything foreign and bottled usually works for me  ).

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. But I do hope some of the above information is useful!

Savant, thanks for your reply.
I've not baught the GRAMMA pad as yet partly because it would cost me about AU$140 to send one to me in Australia, and I'm not sure it would help my situation with the neighbours much.

For the moment I've turned it down from 25 to 10 out of 100 :( , which dosn't bother the neighbours anymore.

When He first came over I left the volume at 25 and changed the subsonic filter from 15Hz(12db slope) to 25Hz(48db slope) and used 2 of the eq sliders at about 15Hz and 20Hz so there was a steep slope from 25Hz down and no output below about 20Hz. We then resumed the movie and within a couple of minutes He was back over and said it was still the same.

So I think my only option is to move to a house that has a basement  I've even seriously thaught about getting the front yard dug out to build an underground room :D but this may not wash with the landlord

cheers :)

You might try Major Music, our distributor in Australia. (If you haven't already.)

Just to update: I've baught a GRAMMA platform from the US including shipping for AU$95, I contacted the Australian dealers and they said they couldnt do any better than AU$149.95 and that they cant even get it for AU$110 off the Aus distributor. How crazy is that.

I can get it cheaper by buying it at the US retail price and have it shipped to my door, then the Aus dealers can get it directly from the Aus distributor  . I tell you what, someone is making a good profit on them. They should realise that the world is getting smaller and its easier to purchase products worldwide nowdays(and cheaper in many cases). So when a company decides to export a product they should not put such a markup in the other country, its not a justifiably increase.

I work for a company that builds and exports Turf Machinery(Ride-on mowers, etc) our retail prices are made so that our profit remains about the same wheather its sold in the UK, US, Japan, or here in Australia. The increase to cover shipping is less than 5% of the retail price, so there is no way someone could buy one here and send it over to the US for cheaper than our US retail. So If we can be internationally competitive then why cant other companies with much smaller products be? because the cost of a container is the same wheather there's 5 large products inside or 5000 smaller products.

sorry for the rant
cheers :)
