Help...I'm getting a BUZZ!

A little over a year ago I posted a thread asking about hooking up my computer to my home theater. The only use I have for this is listening to my library casually on my deck, so I elected to go with a simple hook up, i.e. running some RCA cables from my sound card using a Radio Shack one pin adapter (Soundblaster Live!) to an AUX input on my receiver. Since my computer is in the basement and the HT is on the middle floor, this did require some wiring and it did produce a minor buzz which was predicted on this forum, but it was tolerable. Recently the buzz has become a BUZZZZZ and renders this hook up useless. I have tried everything I can think of but cannot get rid of the buzz. Nothing occurred to produce this problem that I am aware off. It simply came out of the blue and will not go away. Any suggestions? I don’t want to invest in a wireless system in the short term.

my roommates laptop does the same thing, if u unplug the power source & run the laptop on battery the buzz goes away. we just hooked it up to my monster power HTS3500 power center & it went completely away:D since i bought it on ebay i wasnt even sure if it was doing anything, but now i know 100% that it really works. i hate monster products from all that i have learned about them in the last year. glad i envested $90 on that thing now...

Sounds like you're using two seperate circuits to power your equipment, which will introduce a ground hum. You try lifting the ground at the PC or if possible run a heavy extention cord from the circuit powering your HT to the PC. Both of these techniques are for troubleshooting only and should not be considered as permanent fixes. If it is a ground hum, your best option would be to wireless.

You may be able to pick up one of the old RCA Lyra systems for cheap. I had one which I used until I switched to an Airport/Mac setup. It's in my attic somewhere.
