Hey guys,

I've found this speaker and amp combo on gumtree. Both realistic, is this a decent first loudspeaker, using for fast bass heavy music? He's asking $50

It's a realistic mpa 30 amp, help identifying speaker would be handy

Thanks for any help

Guess you didn’t notice, this is a forum for home theater enthusiasts. I’m sure there’s a forum out there somewhere for fans of vintage low-end PA equipment. Regardless, as long as it works you have your $50’s worth but no you won't be getting any "heavy bass" from it.

Might be worth checking with folks on AudioKarma forums - they seems to like vintage audio stuff, but Wayne is right - Realistic brand and their owner - Radioshack, never really produced anything amazing

Seriously, I have no life.
What are you planning to use this for? It is no good for home audio. That is a mono PA amp and some type of instrument speaker. I have no idea if it is lead or bass guitar. I'm not even sure that the amp is the right one for the speaker. It looks to me like a mic amp and not a guitar amp.

Whoa--20 watts, but only at 1 kHz, into 4 ohms, and with 10% distortion. We're probably talking 5 watts max over the entire bandwidth at listenable distortion levels into 8 ohms. I guess some things are getting better.

Cheers guys, picked it up for $40. Really just wanted a loudspeaker and amp combo to make some noise. After listening to the combo it's obvious the amp is way underpowered for the speaker. I'm planning on building my own 70 watt RMS amp to use with the speaker.

Definitely did get my $40 worth of "vintage low-end PA equipment" but what is $40 when I can annoy the vegan bakery that I live next door to, hey?

Thanks SysAdmin, will check it out!

Dennis, turns out the speaker requires 8 ohms, so it is getting nowhere near enough power. Only just starting to learn technical speak for audio equipment. Will definitely be more equipped when I am looking to upgrade.

Thanks all for the replies, despite being on the wrong forum. I will make sure to check the small print next time, and not post to a forum dedicated to "pursuing the truth in audio and video".

Have a nice time.

I don't know, maybe this is the guy who someone with some serious audio gear should be annoying. What did the bakery do to you @jesseln.Tents? (and who cares if they're vegan? It's a fucking bakery.....last thing I expect in a bakery is meat products). Just sayin'....and I'm far from being a vegan.
