I was debating setting up just 2 speakers to my yamaha rx-v 2600, trouble is where exactly is the hole to insert the wire. I took the black and red wires out of the in-wall speaker casing and just strip it a little bit to expose the copper(but not too much of course).

I am not using banana plugs but When I use the the wrench to turn the black and red knobs- I do not see a whole to put the wire in- Do I just touch it in the metal and then put the plastic red and black knobs down.

Someone have a pic, I am kinda lost. I am referring to the binding posts- I don
t see a whole like I would on a pair of bookshelfs which you would turn the knobs up and down and see a whole

Many times you can see a hole in the screw that is the binding post if you unscrew the red/black knobs far enough, but it is not necessary to insert the bare wire into that hole. Just stick it in to the side of the screw and tighten down the red/black caps. Make sure you don't get any part of the wire touching the case of the receiver or the binding post next to it so you don't end up with a short.

So there is a hole? or do I just wrap the copper around the metal and push the black and red caps down?

When you unscrew the black and red plastic pieces all the way, they will expose a hole in the actual metal threaded screw which the black and red plastic piece is threaded onto. Once you expose that hole, stick the twisted copper speaker wire tight (no strands hanging out), and thread it into the corresponding holes, then twist the black and red plastic knobs clockwise finger tight. The holes are usually at an angle, not on top or at the side.

The holes you can see in the photo below (pertaining to the speaker terminals) are for banana plugs. Those plugs can go directly into the center of the black and red plastic knobs and don't require you to tighten or loosen them for connection. Only when you are using a bare wire connection do you need to tighten the black and red plastic knobs.

Well I appear to get it , I twisted the bare wire and put the cap down and made sure not too much wire is coming out but when I play radio- I don't hear anything from the sub- I tried setting the bass to subwf and both.

Is your sub powered? If so, are you connecting it to the subwoofer input on the receiver? You need to set up the receiver for a subwoofer input in two channel mode. How far have you gotten through the manual?

How have you connected the sub to the receiver?

FYI There is another long thread going on today about connecting subs to the receiver and what bass management to use. This will likely point you in the right direction. Of course I can't locate that thread at the moment. If I can find it I will put in a link.

Well it works now but

Hooray, well it works now- but right now its just 2 speakers connected with the sub and I just played the radio.

I guess radio music isn't supposed to sound great, in any case though- the yamaha remote is confusing and sometimes pressing the volume button or changing the station doesn't seem to work.

I can't wait to fully set up a surround sound room though, but boy I don't know how I'll deal with in-wall speaker wire- its hard to deal with it, I guess bulk is better for me.

Is it the sbs-01 or just fm radio that doesn't sound to good anyways.

I am a little worried though- what exactly can short the wire- I kept the bare wire to a minimum and just pushed the caps down.

Ya I use the wrench to turn the knobs down. I did read page 15 but I still don't see the "Hole" in question. Is a bad way to a connect a sound system?

Hey I have an idea, buy some banana plugs.:D Not only are they easy to use, they virtually eliminate any chance of shorting out the amplifier.

Not on AM. FM should be much better if the music is not compressed:D and should get pretty good sub response.

I have the blue jeans banana plugs But its kinda hard to install- I guess when I really set up my HT - I need to get a 1080p Tv first- then I will use it and use the heat to srhink the tubing that is suppposed to cover the banana.

Where would I put the banana plugs in??I still can't find a hole so how would a banana plug work

I'll try some 2 channel FM and subwoofer setup again tonight.

Well atleast its a start
