I'm currently running component cables to my display. I'm installing new pre-pro(denon 3806) and dvd player, both with hdmi capabilities. Will i gain anything by running hdmi from dvd player to pre pro, or will it even pass a signal? Should i run component all the way around until i run hdmi to the display?

If you run HDMI you should run it all the way to the display, not half way.

Yes, that i understand. But my source components are at the back of the room, making the run of hdmi approx. 50 ft. I've read hdmi cables should be effective for about 30 ft or so, thus the component video scenario. I have read a little about hdmi boosters but not ready to take that step yet, hence my question.

I loop HDMI thru my receiver from my satellite receiver, I use the receiver as a pass thru only and it works fine. I don't have a long HDMI run like you so I can't tell you how that will work out.

50 ft is a good bit of distance. Perhaps a cable with better than 22gs wires in them would work better, if such is available even through Blue Jeans. It would not be a cheap experiment though:eek:

As to using a short distance HDMI to receiver, then component, I doubt you would gain anything by that.

PS.

Just saw a post at cables about the 22ga monoprice.com hdmi cable being used to 50ft with no issues.
