Anyway, the receiver is is intended to be permanently connected to the display. You should only bypass the receiver if there's a very good reason, such as your receiver is incapable of passing though the source signal intended for the display. The advantage is that the receiver does any video switching so you don't have to change inputs on both the receiver and the TV when you change sources. Also, the receiver overlays it's own information, such as input selection and volume. And you'll have a more difficult time setting up the receiver unless you run at least a temporary video line to your display to show the GUI.
