Hi, I never had a home theater system before and am trying to setup one. My living room is 16x18 ft with a sloping ceiling reaching high of about 18ft. TV (55inch Samsung 3d) will be in center on the 18ft wall. Couch will be about 12 ft in front of the TV. I have pre-wired in-wall outlets for a 5.1 system. The front outlets are about 3 ft high from the floor and the rear are about 10ft high. I already have a 3d blu ray player. Now trying to buy speakers, sub-woofer and receiver (without a disc player). Budget is $600, but can be stretched to $750 if required.

I am currently looking at Energy Take classic 5.0 speakers on amazon for $160. Can you please suggest what would be the best setup I can get with my budget for my room size. Will the Energy 5.0 be a good start ?

Thanks.

For your room I would say $750 will get you much more than $600 {I would spend the extra on the sub}...
The black friday deals may help you too...

Amazon.com: Jamo S 426 HCS 3 WENGE 5-Piece Home Theater System (Wenge): Electronics

I would just look around and mix and match until you find what you like..

I would go for a satellite speaker, that had a woofer bigger than 3 inches.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am also looking to setup home theater system in my media room (20x14 ft). Speakers to be on the 14 ft wall. Pre-wired in-wall outlets for front speakers about 3 ft from floor. For back speakers about 5.5 ft from floor. My budget for this room is $2500. But that $$ also need me to buy projector and screen along with speakers, sub-woofer, receiver (without disc player). What is the best I can do with that budget as far as speakers,sub-woofer and receiver are concerned while leaving enough $$ for buying the projector(3d capable) and screen.

Thanks.

I honestly think those Take 5's, while excellent little speakers, are too small for that room.

A speakers job is to move air, and the smaller the speaker, the less air they can move effectively. Granted, you can apply more power to an extent, but that extent is quickly reached, and the laws of physics eventually take over and distortion sets in.

I would go and buy the projector and screen - that way it will
help with the guessing game.
