Hello this is my first post so let me introduce myself, my name is Denis and I am a law student up here in Canada. I have been lurking and perusing the vast pastures of knowledge that this forum has bestowed upon the online community and I have a few questions.

Firstly is that I am looking for a receiver with a couple features that I am hoping some of you will make some recommendations regarding this matter.
HDMI Switching is a must. At least 3 in however I only require 1 output. Secondly I would like to eventually hook this up to a full 7.1 system from SVS which would include there monstrosity PB12 Plus as well as the following speakers SVS 2 pairs of SBS 01 satellites 2 MTS-01 as well as an MCS-01.

Keeping all these in mind where do I start. Your help is much appreciated.

You don't say what price you are willing to pay. Here are some, in decreasing order of price, that fit what you say you want:

Yamaha RX-V3800

Yamaha RX-V1800
http://www.yamaha.com/yec/products/productdetail.html?CNTID=558291&CTID=5000300

Yamaha RX-V863

If you were willing to have only two HDMI inputs, you could save a lot of money with:

Yamaha RX-V663

Then, if you really needed another HDMI input, you could buy the Oppo HM-31 HDMI switch (for about $100) that has 3 HDMI inputs and one HDMI output. Hooking that up to the Yamaha RX-V663, you would effectively have 4 HDMI inputs.

Thank you, I must say I forgot to mention something that I would like to include in my receiver some of the future decoding that is available to DTS HD and THX certification once again any suggestion is welcome considering my speaker choice above.

HDMI features

Dennis,
Make sure you get HDMI audio processing and not just switching. Even the new $300 models include HDMI switching.

The only real need for HDMI through the receiver is for the an HD source like BluRay or HD-DVD for processing the newer lossless formats. Additional HDMI inputs for DVD, satelite, etc. are just a convienience.
