Hi all. I have a 20X20' room w/ 9' ceilings that I have wired for a 7.1 setup. The receiver I have settled on is a Denon avr-1907. My budget is $900 The main requirement is that the sub has to be pretty good for music for when I have parties. I've looked at the polks and klipsch. Is there anything else you can recommend?

the 1907 may be a bit much of a reciver for $900 worth of speakers, more money spent to speakers, rather than to amplifer may give you a better sound overall.
but ,that's just me

BTW, ON ceiling or IN ceiling?
but as far as brands, Infinity, NHT, Aperion Audio, and BIC Acoustech make in ceiling speakers that may be worth a listen

These would be IN ceiling speakers. I didn't realize there were ON ceiling speakers. I'm preferably looking for ones w/ adjustable/directional firing speakers.

Polk TC60i are somewhat directional, NHT architectural series IC3 has a three tweeter aray for wider dispersion

Get the SVS system in the 7.1 configuration and get some wall brackets that can point the speakers down into the room (if you must mount them at the ceiling)...that will do your sound the world of good....

Hope this helps - even though it is a few hundred over the budget, get the sub upgrade, you wont regret buying a better sub now.....

Cheers....

Thanks for the suggestion bee-man, but I'm looking for in ceiling speakers. The wife doesn't want them to be seen. Any other suggestions?

Motohead... I wish I did pal....

For in built systems, you will need to pay a pretty decent buck to get to that level...

I favour the old wife's play book here....buy what you want and tell her its what you thought she wanted and that someone mislead you....

Go into your room for an hour and sulk, tear out of the house and come back in three hours like nothing happened...

It's real easy to do...actually.... and at the end of the day..you really get a tremendous system......
