Help compensating for speech processing disorder on my TV

Hi everyone, I have some rather heretical questions:

--Can I configure my flat-screen with a single speaker for the center audio channel, while using the default built-in TV speakers for other sound?
--If so, how do I do it (do I need a special speaker? TV settings?)
--Will this result in sound that is worse than I have now from just the built-in speakers?

I know the sound won't be great, but I have a sound processing issue and need to increase the sound of dialog relative to other sounds. I also do NOT have money for a proper surround-sound 3 or 4 speaker system at this time. A bar might help, but the ones that have speech enhancing algorithms seem crazy expensive!

Most of that depends on what TV you have. Adding a pair of amplified speakers would give you better output than the TV, but there's no way to have them serve as a separate center with just the TV handling the processing. A sound bar is probably a better choice for what you want to do.

Would a really cheap <$200 sound system let me do something like this? Or does the content (i.e. Netflix, cable, DVD) need better sound mixing? It helps to up-and-down the audio all the time, but that gets tedious.

I want to try and avoid CC like my dad needs for a few more years at least...

Thank you! I think I can swing that, and my speech processing is good enough that even a little bit of help would make a difference. I wasn't sure what I needed to be able to adjust the channel volumes separately (since the sound bars I looked at seemed unhelpful).

I appreciate!

How far away is the wall behind your TV? Midrange (speech band) cancellations can result from energy bouncing off the rear wall out of phase, and then canceling out the in phase sound waves where they meet before reaching your ears.
