Help choosing a reciever

I could use some guidance and advice on choosing the right receiver. I'm clearly a newbie compared to the people on this site so your help is greatly appreciated.

I originally asked for help in an earlier thread and was encouraged to get new speakers first. It will not let me link the thread given my newbie post count.

I am moving from Bose Acoustimass satellites to Klipsch WP-35's for the front with a Def. Tech 2002 center. I went and listened to many speakers and the Klipsch with the Def. Tech just sounded like what I wanted for my untrained ear.

So my question is which receiver should I buy. I'd like to spend 1K. A little more if it clearly makes a difference. I need at least 3 hdmi and I am not concerned with scaling as I'd rather the receiver not be involved in that. I want to make sure I take advantage of my new speakers in matching up a new receiver.

Before my change in leaving the Bose in place the receivers that were recommended to me where the Yamaha 663 or 863 (although the 663 is out due to limited HDMI connections), Marantz 7002 (although it's more expensive, only 2 hdmi and I can't find anywhere to hear it) and finally the Pioneer VSX-94TXH.

The Pioneer looks like it has everything I need and more is it worth the price and how does it stack up? Can't find it to listen to it.

And is the 863 just fine as it's priced right?

Finally what else would you recommend.

Thanks in advance.

I think buying last years model will give you a better bang for the buck as long as they meet your criteria. No point in wasting extra money if it pretty much does the same thing. There are great buys out there now, clearing out for the new models from Onkyo, Denon, Yamaha, etc.

Sorry to go OT, but it is advisable to use the same brand/line speaker for at least the front three. These are good combo options.

Klipsch RF-62/RC-62
DT BP-10/CLR 2002

The VX-863 is just fine for your setup. It is a great receiver.....
