I have access to the following receivers:

Denon AVR4802R for $1500
Denon AVR5800 for $1600
Denon AVR5803 for $2200
Onkyo TXDS989Ver2 for $1800

I have Definitive Technology BP2002TL speakers on the way. I currently have a Polk Cs400i Center and Polk f/x1000i rears (Probably going to get rid of the Polk and get a DefTech C/L/R 2003 Center) with a Polk PSW450 Sub. My room is 27X15 and I use it 99% for HT.

In your opinions, which would you buy if you were me and why? Am I missing something? Other recommendations for the $$$?

I know just enough to be dangerous. So far DSP does little for me...I use PLII or THX for movies and 5ch Stereo for music.

I'd really appreciate your input!

Thanks,

If I could get a new Denon 5803 for $2,200 I would snatch it up in a second! Those are fantastic AVR's. The dealer price on those is $4,300.

Are you buying from a Denon Dealer or someone else? Be careful, Denon will not honor the warrantee unless you buy from a authorized dealer.

I have the 4802R and have been thoroughly impressed with it’s sound quality. This is especially so in pure direct mode for music. There’s a lot more depth and dynamics to the music in comparison to my old 3803. The surround sound is equally outstanding as well. A very impressive receiver.

The 5803 is the grand poobah of Denon AVR's. Ask Gene what he thinks about the 5803 (he's reviewing one now).

All of these are manufacturer refurbished by an authorized Denon retailer except the 4802R. Is there that much difference between the 5800 and the 5803?
