What devices do you currently have?

What type of inputs do you currently use?

What TV? does it accept HDMI?

The onkyo TX-SR506, and the yahmaha RX-V463 are both in that pricerange, but neither will take the audio from HDMI. You will have to run optical or coaxial out of the PS3/360

I have a 12 year old Sony TV, but I'm planning to get a 42-50" Plasma later on.
I also got these back in 1996
Kenwood Stereo Control Amplifier KC-992
Kenwood Stereo Power Amplifier KM-992
Kenwood 3-way Tower Speaker System JL-929

I'm also using a Philips DVP-5990 DVD player currently to watch movies but I'm planning to get a PS3 to play blu-ray movies

Since your going 5.1 instead of stereo you won't want to use those amplifiers. The one built into a reciever will have plenty of power to drive those speakers.

I forgot to mention I want to use the Kenwood power amp and speakers for the fronts and the Polk Audio RM10FS setup as 7.1 system.
Here are the specs for the Kenwood components

Kenwood Stereo Power Amplifier KM-992
The power amplifier is 150 watts RMS, and is able to control two sets of speakers independantly.
Specs for the power amp are: 150W RMS from 20Hz to 20kHz at 0.03% THD rated at 8ohms. THD at 1/2 rated power into 8 ohms is 0.015% over the 20Hz to 20kHz range, and only 0.002% at 1kHz Frequency response is 5Hz to 200kHz, +0dB, -3dB. Signal to noise ratio is 120dB

Kenwood 3-way Tower Speaker System JL-929
-12" Cone type Woofer
-5" Cone Type Midrange
-1" Cone Type Tweeter
-8 ohms
Max Input Power - 180 watts
Rate Input Power - 90 Watts

Frequency Response - 30 Hz to 20,000 Hz
Crossover Frequency - 2000 Hz, 5000 Hz

A few problems with that.

1. its usually best to match your Left/Center/Rights. The kenwoods will sound different from the polk audio center.

2. In order to use a seperate amplifier you would need a reciever with pre-outs. You probably won't find that feature till you approach the $700-$800 range. (Unless the kenwood amplifier has a speaker level input.)

If you could find a bookshelf or center that matched your JL-929's you could use that as the center. Then use the reciever as the amplifier on all 7 channels. Those kenwood speakers are fairly easy to drive, you should get enough power out of the reciever.

The onkyo is 7.1, you would have to jump up to the yamaha rx-v563 to get 7.1 there.

You won't have to jump up quite that high in price to get pre-outs. I have a Yammy RX-V663 that has them and I only paid $350.

I have been looking for a cheap receiver for a friend and haven't found one that I think fits the bill yet. If I find one...I'll post it. In the meantime, look at the 663 that I use...maybe you will find a holiday deal that will bring it to 300 for you.

Just didn't want to scare the guy away by throwing costly numbers at him. :D
