First off, thank all you audiophiles for help, I had no idea what a receiver was a month ago and now I have a fairly decent entry level system.

Now onto business: While I wait for my Onkyo to ship in, I borrowed a cheap insignia receiver. Well I connected the xbox360 to the "dvd" red, yellow, and white plugs, with plugs corresponding to their color. Then I bought an a/v connector and connected my TV with red, yellow, and white plugins into my receiver the same way. The problem is NOTHING is appearing, no sound or video, and when I switch it to dvd nothing plays either. It can't be that I connected it wrong because I plugged it directly into each designated spot, so what could be wrong? receiver isn't broken because it still works on his system. I think it might be something really simple that I overlooked :(

XBox:
- If it is like a normal DVD player, there is a setting in the menu system that has to be set to PCM because you are using analog connections for audio.

- You connected the video from the xbox to the receiver but did you connect video from the receiver to the TV? If the receiver does not switch video, then connect the video from the xbox straight to the TV.

TV:
- Some TVs won't pass audio to their audio outputs if the internal speakers are on. Check if there is a menu setting on the TV to disable the internal speakers.

- Make sure you are using the 'fixed' audio outputs of the TV. If use the variable audio outs, the TV volume control will be active and you have to turn it way up. If you use the fixed outs, the TV volume control has no effect and you use the receiver only to control volume. Most TVs have two different outputs, one labeled fixed and the other variable, but some require you to set fixed vs variable in the menu.

- You don't need to send video from the TV to the receiver. If you have cable conected from the wall to the TV, the TV already has the audio and the video and the audio outs will get the audio portion to the receiver.
