I'm in the process of purchasing a iTouch. These are new to me but from what I've read upgrading the earphones or buds helps alot. I don't want to spend alot and I don't know anything about all these new ear pieces. Could somebody with some experience with ipods give me some suggestions on either earbuds or earphones definitely under $100 and some suggestions for under $50 also. Is it worth upgrading from the earbuds that come with the itouch to $100 or even $50 phones? Thanks.

Yes, definitely upgrade to some noise isolationg earbuds. I recently bought some nicer earbuds and returned them after I listened to my dads inexpensive set of JVC marshmallow buds that cost $20, but can be had for less if you buy online. I also got a set of JVC HA-FX300 buds that I find to be the best sounding buds I have heard, and they can be had online for around $50, they are also very comfortable.

Thanks I need all the suggestions at I can get. So in your opinion look for something that has the noise cancelling technology?

Yes it is worth it to upgrade from the stock earbuds. I don't have any experience with in ear monitors but for full sized headphones that can be easily powered by an iPod touch are the Shure 440, Audio Technica ATH-AD700 and Audio Technica ATH-M50. The Shures are neutral, the AD700 strengths is comfort, soundstage and if you prefer slightly rolled off highs. If you like bass, the M50 is very good. Both the 440 and M50 are closed so they will provide isolation. The AD700 is open. Each of these headphones can be found around or under $100

It is absolutely worth upgrading since the ones that come with the Iphone and Ipod touch really suck (no bottom). I got some Sennheiser buds that work great with my Iphone and sound excellent. They also sound good with my daughter's IPod touch. They were about $80 at the Apple store. I felt strange about paying eighty bucks to the people that had sold me a phone with such bad earbuds, but I rationalized that they put the effort into the phone and not the phones. In the case of the phone, they also work for phone calls.

Sennheiser is a top brand, you can't go wrong with them.
Do you consider in-ear phones?

They are the kind that you stuff into the ear. At about $80 they are not too expensive, but greatly increase the bottom, as well as having very good detail. They made me appreciate that the Ipod part of the phone has quite good sound, even with a 160K bit rate that is the default in Itunes (too many I's).

I've had good luck with the cheap "Maximo iM-490S iMetal Isolation Earphones" {$50} on my iPhone coupled with good quality music (no 92/256kbs iTunes crap) while there's conflicting reviews on Amazon about buzzing sounds I have a sneaking suspicion it's the quality of there music tracks. I also can stand the "Altec Lansing MHP136 Muzx Series" wood earbuds that you can pick up at Wal-Mart {$20} there passable when I'm just running around outside in the yard.

For higher end buds you have to decide if you like over the ear or normal dandling phones. I'm a big fan of over-the-ear custom fited monitors but that's going to set you back more that $100.
