Ok, I have no idea who was messing with my stuff but Im having problems. Im trying to watch a movie (Batman Begins) and my reciever will NOT go into dolby digital. I can only have some kind of DSP enabled or be in stereo. Ive had this happen before and I know its something with the reciever, but I cant figure it out. HELP

two quick checks:

1. Is the DVD player configured to put out a 5.1 digital bit stream that is not PCM?

2. Is your receiver configured to accept the 5.1 bit stream from the DVD player?

You need to read your user manuals and get to know how to configure your receiver and DVD player.

Nobody for sure messed with the DVD player, you have to get into menus to do anything on that end. The reciever is recieving a dolby digital signal (the dolby digital light is on, which is only on when its getting that signal) but it wont let it output in DD. It wants to have a DSP on or have it be in stereo, mono, PLII ect. Ive had the reciver for 5 years now, I dont think I need to learn how to configure it. Its happend before, something gets turned on that overrides the DD signal and I just cant rember how to get it to default back to how I had it set.

My Technics receiver won't output anything if I accidently turned on the 2nd pair of main speakers. Check that.. If that fails go to the trouble shooting guide of your receiver's manual.

Dont ask how, but I got it. I went and double checked the DVD player was outputing RAW, and it was. Then I downloaded an owners manual cause I didnt want to dig mine out. All it said was basicly for surround press surround, which I tried a million times last night. For some reason I went up to the reciever and pressed surround and the DSP turned off, and I was back in regular old Dolby Digital. Finally I can go watch my movie. Thanks for the ideas.

Glad to see you have it working again but it raises an alarm bell. IF you've pressed that button last night like you said and it DID NOT swicth the DSP off, then you have a fault with that switch on your receiver. Is it still under warranty?

I dont think thats the case, when I pressed it last night it would change it to prologic (I think) So it was working (kinda I guess) just not changing to what I wanted. Ive had this reciever for about 5 years like I said, its a lil out of warranty. Im hoping to upgrade it somewhat soon anyway.
