Help: A/V Receiver & Components for Home

I recently purchased a home that is wired with in-ceiling speakers throughout the house. I know I will need an A/V receiver to power the system and from the research I've done it appears that I'll either need a speaker selector or distribution amp. Each room/zone has an in-wall volume control. From a manual I found it looks like the previous owner had a Yamaha RX V2500 A/V receiver (910W, 7.1 channel, multi-zone). Here are some more details on the speaker layout:

Total number of speakers: 19
Rooms / Zones:
- Backyard: 4 speakers
- Living Room: 2 speakers
- Dining Room: 2 speakers
- Courtyard: 2 speakers
- Master Bed: 2 speakers
- Office: 2 speakers
- Media Room: 5 speakers (home theater surround sound)

The system will primarily be used for home theater surround sound and playing music in the rooms. I'd appreciate any suggestions as to the components I should purchase to properly set up the system.
