Help a novice to select music system

Hi folks,
I've finally decided that it is time I get a music system for my bedroom. I'm tired of listening songs through laptop speakers and need something bigger and better.

Most of my music collection is in the form of mp3s and home-burnt Audio, MP3 CDs. I need a player that can play music wireless from computer and from mp3 players through aux inputs. It would be good if the player can support iphone, ipod devices, but that is not necessary.

Now the important part of the requirement. I need something that is not too bulky, about the size of a home desktop printer.

Bose Waveguide music system fits this description. It costs $550, a little too pricey, but if that is the only decent music system I can find, I'll buy it.

Are there other music systems that fit my above description with a quality that can compare with Bose Waveguide music system?

Wireless is the hard part but I'd give the Klipsch Promedia 2.1 (wireless version) a good hard look. I've owned the wired version and it should blow the doors off the Bose. The weakness is the subwoofer. It's only 6.5" and a tad boomy but I don't think you'll do better for $200.Video, Review

A better solution would be a wired connection. Use a decent USB sound card to connect a pair of quality powered speakers like Audioengine A5 monitors and a small subwoofer.

I agree with this. I have owned a pair of Audioengine A5s for the last 6 months or so and I have been very happy with them. They will definitely be much better than the Klipsch Promedia and many other desktop speakers you will find. I did not feel the need to purchase a subwoofer for these as I felt they had plenty of low end on their own - though I know some people do use these with a sub as well. They retail for $350, so cheaper than the speakers you mentioned, but I'm not sure if that's still in your price range or not.

I actually just bought a pair of floorstanding towers as I have moved into a new apartment and have decided to take the passive speaker + amp route. I am willing to sell my A5s if you are interested by chance - they are in perfect condition and I haven't used them in the last two months since I moved into my new apartment. Not to turn the thread into an ad for my speakers or anything lol.

There are certainly other options, and you should explore on your own to decide what works best for your needs, but I just thought I would throw in my two cents. :)
