hey guys, I'm buying a 5.1 surround sound system for my bed room and i need to know where the best spots to place the speakers are. The shape of my room is kinda awkward. i will be using the system for Xbox 360 and to watch blueray.

I have a CAD drawing of my room, if you could take a screen shot and place dots where the speakers would go and re post that would be great.

Also if you could give me some specs. I'm kinda new to surround sound, if you could recommend systems for my room that would be appreciated.

The Circles with numbers in them are the places id be sitting. (1) is for playing xbox (most important) and (2) is for watch blueray.

Here are the drawings

I would try to stay close to the basic 5.1 layout. Your front speakers will be so close together on the sides of the TV that you may be able to run the fronts without the expense of a center (there should be a mode for that in your receiver.) I would go for ceiling mounted speakers for the rear surrounds so you can get better placement. I would take a look at a omni-directional speakers for the rears such as Mirage Nanostats, because you have the two seating locations and you want a broad ceiling soundfield.

I think the ceiling mounted surrounds is a good idea, but if you're unable to do this, I might recommend an irregularly spaced placement on the walls running from the corner where the bed is. For example, halfway down the wall running parallel to the length of the bed, and maybe 1/3 of the way down the wall running parallel with the headboard. Just a thought - but best to use some experimentation to see what sounds best.

The fronts should be less problematic, if you can keep them clustered at some equal distance from the TV on either side, and above or below for the center channel.

That's a challenging room, as corner placements often are, but best of luck! :)

Wide dispersion surrounds

If you can’t use overhead speakers for the rears, you might want to try 180 degree radiators from Klipsch. That’s what I use and I like them a lot for covering a wide area. The ones I am talking about are black 3-sided wall hanging units. They have a bass speaker in the center with two horn tweeters, one out each of the two sides. The ones I got were a good deal but Klipsch speakers can get expensive depending on which ones you get.
