Hello,

I've read this forum for a while, thought I would join. So, I'm saying hello.

I'm on the site because I'm starting to save to upgrade or replace my setup.

I'm trying to decide whether to build a whole new home theater, or just build a stereo music system, or combine what I have into a new home theater.

From there, I have lots of other things to figure out, but it's easy enough right now. Save, and learn.

My setup right now is more about audio than visual, and probably always should be. We watch videos, but don't receive any TV signal. Our TV was a hammy down, and probably wont change for a while. We don't care enough. Oh, and no game consols, either.

I started buying stuff during my first year of college, starting with my first paycheck. That should tell you some of why I have what I have.

Kenwood VR-407 (it really did everything at the time, and was at my budget level. I can't complain too much, it does what it promises with room for more stuff. I don't need more features, I want better quality)

Polk RT35i's in the front
Polk RT25i's in the rear
Polk CS245i at center
Polk PSW350 for a sub

as a whole they don't sound bad. I can usually pick apart moderatly complex pieces, and they don't sound too bad. When I bought them, I compared them with the infinity at the same level. The Infinity may have been a bit better, but were that much more out of my budget. The Polk were out of the budget, but were much better than the Bose that I walked in expecting to buy (not knowing anything about speakers).

Headphones: Grado SR-125
-they grow more comfortable after hours of listening, but were quite fatigue-ing to me initially. Now that I'm use to the amount of detail... I want more from everything else.

I've also got one of those Sony 200 disc cd changers, a sony dvd player that does progressive scan stuff that my tv can't handle, a turntable, a tape deck (that never gets used). I can hook up my Ipod, but hate the sound quality.

Oh, and I could put in one last note. My wife and I are epecting our first child any day now. That should tell you what my current budget is like.

Depending on your budget, there's lots you can do. If you're planning to upgrade your entire system, spend half your budget on speakers.
