Hey guys,
I'm new to the forums and am loving it all! I thought I would introduce myself & my current system. Always changing though!

Currently:
AV receiver: Sony STR-DN1040
Blu-ray player: Panasonic BD-65
Speakers:
Fronts- Aaron ATS-1
Center- Wharfedale Diamond 9.CC
Surrounds- Couple of older panasonic satelites (not proud of that)
Sub- Active Sony (Soon to be moved to the bin...)
TV: Panasonic 42" plasma

I have also spent a bit of time drawing up my layout. The sub is to the left of the tv unit. (not shown) I would welcome your wise suggestions on my layout. Unfortunately the room sucks, but we can't currently do much about it.

Cheers Mate ! And welcome to Audioholics - I think you came to right place
(based on you Aaron branded speakers, I assume you are from the land down under)

I don't see any issues with positioning your speakers, but sub positioning is not simply geometric - you'd to be a bit more creative to get best result of your (or any ) sub
Search the main AH site for "Subwoofer crawl" guides

One glaring issue with your system is mismatched fronts/center - these need to match to same brand AND series to help with HT voicing
I don't know much about Aaron speakers, but Wharfedale Diamond series I did hear myself and did like a lot. Several forum members here do own Wharfedale and enjoy them too.

Sure am mate. Great suggestions too. Thanks very much. :) There isn't much said about the Aarons online really, but almost every decent hifi shop in Aus stocks them. The ATS-1's are bookshelf speakers. They sound good for the money anyhow. All this is of course my setup until I win a large sum of money... one day. Eventually, I have my eyes set on the B&W CM9 ht package... One day...

yea, I found the for Aarons specs online, but specs don't tell me how does it sound like :) It's good to know that you like their sound.
and btw: sorry to ruin your dreams but I win large sum of money I would stay far and clear from anything B&W, especially their "value" CM line
There are much better speakers out there for much less money :)

I think SVS has aussie sales channel - I were you, I would start saving my hard earned $AU towards an SVS sub :)

Good luck !

Oh no! Why's that? I've only read good things about B&W. This is the package I'd be interested in: B&W CM9 Theatre review from the experts at whathifi.com

I'll look into those SVS subs. Thanks! :)

Can you point me to some information about why the B&W's are no good?

EDIT: Not that I could afford them anyway! :)
