I am new to the world of home theater. I am building my first room. It will include a projector screen (around 10 feet) and a 7.1 sound system all run off my HTPC (home theater personal computer). I have a Polk Audio RM6600 5.1 set of speakers that i plan on adding to. I like the Rti10 's for the front 2 channels, the rm6600 will fill out the surrounds and surround backs. I dont need much more than that. The room is 14' by 14' with the back open. My sub cant keep up (polk psw350). I need advice on 2 things 1) please recommend a good sub for this room. I will spend up to $700 cdn dollars. I like the PSW505, but i am open to suggestions. And 2) I need a good 7.1 reciever/amp. I dont know much about these, so any suggestions are welcome. I am no audiophile, but i would like a good reciever for the buck. looking at around 1000ish cnd. Any input would be very welcome and much appreciated!!!

my sound card is onboard my motherboard, 7.1 optical from MSI (i think its a K8N NEO) it does a great job. i currently run creative giga 7.1 in my computer room, sounds almost to incredible to believe for a 7.1 sound system for a couple hundred bucks... computer speakers have come a long way.

Since you're in Canada, I'd highly recommend the top HSU subwoofer in your budget. www.hsuresearch.com

For a receiver, since you'll be integrating it with your PC, I'd recommend the Pioneer Elite VSX 72 or 74.

Check www.pricegrabber.com or other search engines for Pioneer online pricing. You may be able to save a few hundred online - just be aware of any warranty issues.

You have the same motherbaord as me! K8N-Neo 4, I've never actually used it's onbaord sound, my Xfi Xtreme music takes care of that.:D

Check the canadian prices on the Yamaha RX-V1600/2600 and RX-V2500. I think the new models are around $1k.

I second the HSU sub recommendation.

You also might consider upgrading your center channel so that it can keep up with the mains. The center is very importat for HT.
