Height vs In Ceiling AVR decoding

Hello everyone, I hope i am not beating a dead horse with this question. Has anyone ever had their AVR decode front height/elevation speakers as “top front” in ceiling speakers for Atmos? If so, was there a preference or change in sound? I just purchased a pair of SVS prime elevation speakers which I intend to mount in the front, about 12-13 ft high. I have a Denon X4400h which will decode my 5.1.2 set up for Atmos. I see there are options for “height” or “top front” speakers. Any advice here? Thanks everyone.

I believe you should use the front height designation for more accurate playback.

Thanks for the feedback. I’m just curious on the difference. I hear heights only add separation to L/R.

No, the Dolby Atmos renderer decides which speakers to use to accurately render objects in space based on where you tell it your speakers are placed. If you tell the AVR that you have top front, for example, it assumes those speakers are at a 45degree elevation in front of you. If you tell it you have front height, it assumes they're at about 30 degrees and along the front. If you tell it top middle, it assumes that they're just a foot or two in front of you but more or less directly above you.
